  • Expandability Using a Stock AD Wiring Harness

-One of the reasons guys like to go with the expensive modern style harnesses is to give them more options for expansion. The problem is, those harnesses are substantially more expensive. Using the Classic Parts Stock Harness ($150) we can add all of the expandability you want by using these:

The one pictured is an 8 position fuseholder. Here is how they work. One side of the box has a metal bar across it that distributes power across 4 positions, then another bar for the other 4. This enables you to have half of the 8 positions for Unswitched Power and the other 4 positions for Ignition Switched power. A simple jumper wire can be used to connect the 4's together for a single switched or unswitched unit.

A single #10 wire from the very back (any of the three terminals) on the stock switch to the bar end of the fusebox will give you Unswitched Battery power. This means power is applied all the time even when the ignition switch is turned off. OR for Switched Power using the stock Ignition Switch, a #10 wire to the unused Accessory terminal (far right sitting in the drivers seat) will get you power only when you turn the ignition switch. Remember this is the Positive (+12v) power we use for the fusebox. Each accessory will also need a Negative source which is usually the accessories own case, mount, etc.

This really cleans up the wiring harness since only one wire is used to power all 8 accessories. Each accessory is fused with the fuse value of your choice. This means no more inline fuse holders! It is a good idea to take the time to label each position or at least make a diagram to stick in the glovebox so you know at a glance what fuse goes to what accessory. The box mounts with #8 (3/4" long) sheet metal screws spaced 2-1/4" apart.
