  • Tip of the Week (32) for May 8 - 14, 2016

Starting next week, we will start a several part series on installing a wiring harness in a 1953 3100. I will put it all together for a How-To article, but if you have an interest in learning how to wire your truck, you can learn with me. I do not profess to know how to do this, but you can learn from my mistakes. How great is that?

Meanwhile, this week's tip is about Carburetors. Most of us have Rochester B carbs on our engines and there is no better resource than a free full service manual. Mike from Mike's Carbs offers the manual in PDF format and downloadable for your convenience. If you have questions about your Rochester B, it is probably in there somewhere. Here is where to get it...

It gets even better! So most of you have a Roch B but take for granted the correct Jet is installed. It very well might be, but the problem with Jets is, they are very easy to drill out to a larger size. So if your Jet says .057 on it, is it .057 or is it something else the previous owner thought was more appropriate? How do we know what Jet was correct for the Engine we are running? Mike to the rescue again. Mike has a nice list of Jet sizes by year that will get you where you need to be. You can order any of the sizes listed through Mike along with various other parts that are still available. Here is Mike's comprehensive list of Jet Sizes:

Then in researching his site, I noticed a lot of other technical information available for the Rochester B. That page is here:

So, don't feel left out if you have a Carter. He has all of that information as well. We are all very appreciative of these resources that are indeed timeless. If it were not for people like Mike, preserving this historical data, we would not have what we need to really make the most out of our restoration hobby. Thanks Mike! Seeya Next Week! Let the wiring harness fun begin!
